Direct Benefit to Council
With the end of the financial year fast approaching it is time to get those other projects completed that will directly benefit the Council's operations:
  1. Digitisation of Aperture Cards
  2. Digitisation of Engineering plans and drawings
  1. Aperture Cards are usually microfilm copies of the original plan/drawings that can only be viewed/printed using a microfilm reader-printer.  These microfilm reader-printers cost around $24,000 to replace; though the new ones do allow scanning of the aperture cards, not just printing.  When the aperture cards are digitised, then the Engineer can view, print or e-mail the drawing within seconds instead of 30 minutes to an hour of searching through drawers full of cards, viewing on microfilm reader-printer and printing.  That is a lot of valuable time that is being wasted by Engineers within Council.
  2. Hard-copy plans & drawings - Town Planners, Engineers and Environment specialist all utilise the hard copy as it is easier to show personnel on-site the different aspects and verify measurements.  All these original drawings/plans are tearing or misplaced or are too valuable to take to site as they are the only copy in existence.
The digitising of these original plans/drawings will provide the ability to share the information without comprising the original drawing/plan's integrity.

The many benefits include:

Winners of last Month's Trivia
There were no winners last month..

There has been several major disasters in the last 12 months and two category 5 storms. For your chance to win a yummy prize (and bragging rights, of course!), just answer the following question:
How many times has Innisfail and surrounding area, in Queensland, been affected by Category 5 cyclones that have crossed the coast and when was the first recorded one?

Answer:  There has been 2 category 5 cyclones in recorded history in the Innisfail area that have crossed land.  The first in 1918 and the cyclone was not named.

A Micro Bit of Trivia
Did You Know?

There have been many discussions on the Australian immigration and many books written.  However there has been one book published in the last 12 months that highlights the forgotten immigrants:

Who were the invisible immigrants, what is the name of the book and what was James Hardie's contribution to assist his countrymen to assimilate into the Canberra community?
(Hint: This is a challenge as it is difficult to find on the Internet and will require some reading from the written word)

The first five (5) correct answers will each receive a scrumptious box of delicious chocolates. Send your answers to gosinfo@gosmicro.com.au
